Meerabai’s Song

Translation

hari guN gAvat nAchUngI

mei prabhu guN gAvat nAchUngI

I shall immerse myself in singing the Divine Names and plays of the Lord and dancing to its tunes!

apne mandir me beit beit kar

gIta bhAgavata vAchUngI

I shall sit in the temple of my beloved Lord and read Srimad Bhagavat Gita and Srimad Bhagavata.

jnAna dhyAna kI gatatI bAndh kar

hari jan sang mei lAgUngI

I shall bundle and throw off all knowledge seeking efforts and meditation, the moment I find great Sadhus, who are Sri Hari’s beloved.

I would rather just be in their company and participate in the Hari Kirtan that they shall be engaged in!

mIrA ke prabhu giridharnAgar

sadA premarasa chAkUngI

By singing the Divine Names of the Lord, one naturally develops great love for the Lord. So she further sings that by being in the company of such great men who are ever immersed in doing Namasankirtan and by singing the glories herself, she shall establish herself ever in the blissful love of her Lord Giridhari!

For where two or three are gathered together in My Name, there am I in the midst of them – Matthew: 18:20

Nama Article 27th December 2008

From our Scriptures

Lord, who is THE Supreme Omnipotent referred as "Swaraat" in our scriptures says to Sage Narada,

नाहं वसामि वैकुण्टे योगि ह्रुदयेरवौ

मत्भक्ताः यत्र गायन्ति तत्र तिष्टामि नारद

nAhaM vasAmi vaikuNTe na yogi hrudayeravau |

matbhaktA: yatra gAyanti tatra tiSTAmi nArada ||

"I do not remain seated in my throne in my Abode (Sri Vaikuntam) nor in the heart of a yogi.

But wherever My devotees sing with most earnest heart; tatra tiSTAmi —I present Myself there. I take My seat and hear their hearty song. I run towards the place where the devotees chant with hearty devotion about Me: that is what really attracts Me most."

The Bible also says:

For where two or three are gathered together in My Name, there am I in the midst of them.

Matthew: 18:20

When you are remembering God by taking His Name, you will get right guidance from within.

Nama Article 25th December 2008

Devotee: At every moment of our life, we have to make a choice. Is Ram Nam a sufficient guide to us in the choice we have to make?

Swami Papa Ramdas

Certainly! When you are remembering God by taking His Name, you will get right guidance from within.

Whenever any difficulty or doubt arises, sit silent, remembering God, and you will get the necessary guidance as to what you should do.

While there is no doubt in my mind that Nama chanting is the surest way in kaliyuga for liberation, sometimes i get frustrated when i see the suffering around me. We stay in Maharashtra, where we read about farmers committing suicide every single day. Around us there are so many slums where people consider themselves lucky when they are able to get two square meals a day. I understand that "Nama Prachar" is the main motto of our mission, can we not do some sort of service for these people?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

A tree is infected with some pests. One way of combating pests is to spray pesticides on the leaves and fruits. The other, more efficient way is to treat it at the root. Social service is akin to the former whereas spiritual transformation (by way of Chanting the Nama) is like treating at the root.

When it is said that everything in this world is God's creation then why people reject certain days as inauspicious? When we have faith in God and carry out our duties as prescribed and adhere to the religious path, do we need to give importance on these things like not undertaking any thing on Ashtami and Navami and Prathamai days?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

God created poison too. Can one consume poison just because it is also God’s creation? The great Maharshis have prescribed that good things be done in certain times and avoided at other times.

It is only for our benefit that they have prescribed it. It is up to you to either believe it or reject it.

We can resign ourselves to the Will of God and keep away our egosense, only by a continuous remembrance of God, just as we keep darkness away from a room by means of a light.

Nama Article 23rd December 2008

Devotee: How can we make a total surrender to the will of the Divine in the condition in which we are now?

Swami Papa Ramdas

We can resign ourselves to the Will of God and keep away our egosense, only by a continuous remembrance of God, just as we keep darkness away from a room by means of a light.

The moment the light is out, there is darkness again. Even so, the moment we forget God, the ego reappears. Selfsurrender is the result of a constant stream of Godremembrance.

It is now that we recognise that God’s will alone is supreme and our will is nothing.

This is why Ramdas has been prescribing the repetition of God’s Name as a means of continued contact with God.

Our faith in the living God is to be measured by the extent of freedom from anxiety of any kind whatsoever. The supreme law, making others superfluous, is heartassimilation of Ramanama in every fibre of our being

Nama Article 19th December 2008

Mahathma Gandhi

Our faith in the living God is to be measured by the extent of freedom from anxiety of any kind whatsoever.

Full faith in God requires an accurate knowledge of His laws and corresponding obedience thereto.

The supreme law, making others superfluous, is heartassimilation of Ramanama in every fibre of our being. The truth of this is verified in everyday experience.
