One who serves God can never be helpless. The more ardently one seeks communion by engaging in japa, His service and contemplation, the fuller will be His revelation.

By your japa and meditation [repetition of the Lord’s name], those who are close to you will also benefit through the helpful influence of your presence

Nama Article 16th April 2013

Jagat (world) means ceaseless movement, and obviously there can be no rest in movement. How could there be peace in perpetual coming and going? Peace reigns where no coming exists and no going, no melting and no burning. Reverse your course, advance towards Him – then there will be hope of peace.

By your japa and meditation [repetition of the Lord’s name], those who are close to you will also benefit through the helpful influence of your presence. In order to develop a taste for meditation you have to make a deliberate and sustained effort, just as children have to be made to sit and study, be it by persuasion or coercion. By taking medicine or having injections a patient may get well; even if you do not feel inclined to meditate, conquer your reluctance and make an attempt. The habit of countless lives is pulling you in the opposite direction and making it difficult for you – persevere in spite of it! By your tenacity you will gain strength and be moulded; that is to say, you will develop the capability to do sadhana. Make up your mind that however arduous the task, it will have to be accomplished. Recognition and fame last for a short time only, they do not accompany you when you leave this world. If your thought does not naturally turn towards the Eternal, fix it there by an effort of will.

Some severe blow of fate will drive you towards God. This will be but an expression of His Mercy; however painful, it is by such blows that one learns one's lesson.

Please check these: Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

When one is afflicted with sorrow, if he persists in prayers and not question the Lord as to why He is putting him into grief, when the difficult times pass, the Lord is pleased and rewards him with a special gift of His grace.

You should not only accept from the bottom of your heart the situation that the Lord keeps you in but also be grateful to Him for that because it is verily the Lord's blessing!

When there is true love, even adversities appear to be blessings

To forget God’s Name is adversity; ever to think of His Name is prosperity.

At that stage you realise you do dhyana without any effort on your part, that dhyana is your real nature. Till then, effort is necessary

The common question that arises in everyone is 'What is essential to attain God – Grace or effort?'

In the other paths, you take some effort and then wait for God's grace. In Bhakti, you depend only on the grace of God and nothing else. That makes Bhakti an easier way to attain the end-state

To remain in the Holy Feet of the Guru as a ‘nobody’ (zero); to remain like a doll in his hand. This is the only effort that can be taken by us

Likewise, God takes hold of his devotee and removes all the hurdles in his/her way.

To repeat his Name is to be in His presence. He will reveal His true being to you

Nama Article 1st February 2013

Anandamayi Ma

Whenever you possibly can, sustain the flow of the Sacred Name. To repeat his Name is to be in His presence. Just as a human friend opens his heart to you and tells you all about himself when you come to him, so, if you associate with the supreme friend, He will reveal His true being to you.

>The day that is gone never returns. Invaluable time is slipping away. Devote your days to the endeavour to draw close to the Lord of the Humble.

>

Anandamayi Ma

At one time you declared emphatically that if only you could secure suitable employment, you would most earnestly cultivate the spiritual side of life along with material comforts and pleasures. That you have kept your word as to worldly enjoyment is more than obvious; but in what dark cave, in what inaccessible abyss have you hidden away the tender plant of spiritual aspiration? When will you start making an effort to bring light into that dark cave?

Delay not: The day that is gone never returns. Invaluable time is slipping away. Devote your days to the endeavour to draw close to the Lord of the Humble.

When extreme old age supervenes, you will be too sluggish, too feeble to concentrate on God’s name. How will you then make up for what you failed to do in good time?

It is impossible for a man to commit as many sins as can be annulled by God’s Name.

Anandamayi Ma

By God's Name the pull of evil is vanquished. There is a saying that it is impossible for a man to commit as many sins as can be annulled by God's Name.

Just as a single spark of fire can consume more things than you ever able to accumulate, so by the contemplation of the Supreme being, by the endeavor to approach Him, all your sins will be obliterated. The destructible will be destroyed and Reality stand revealed.

The seed in the form of a mantra will be made to sprout when provided with the necessary nourishment in the form of satsang

Anandamayi Ma

The Aksara (syllable or series of syllables) by which the mind becomes liberated is called mantra. The Aksara is cinmayi (permeated, as it were, by consciousness); it is the sabdaBrahman; it is called the Nama Brahman.

Feel convinced that He will be found in the Name. Have firm faith that the seed that has been buried in your consciousness will without fail grow into a tree. Just as after sowing a seed, it has to be watered and manured, similarly the seed in the form of a mantra will be made to sprout when provided with the necessary nourishment in the form of satsang. As you desire God, be it in a particular form or with out form, so will you find Him.

You should understand that everything you do in order to realize God is helpful. Nothing at all is wasted

Anandamayi Ma

No attempt is futile; everything serves a purpose. Suppose you are traveling somewhere by railway. In order to catch the train you will first go by boat from your village to Dacca, then descend from the boat with the help of a stick and get into a horse carriage that will take you to the station.

Although your aim is a journey by train, you cannot say that the boat, stick, horse carriage and so forth are of no use. Similarly, you should understand that everything you do in order to realize God is helpful. Nothing at all is wasted.

By whatever Name you may invoke Him, your effort will be crowned with success. The main thing is to cling to the Name with constancy.
