We attach ourselves to Him who has no attachments to rid ourselves of our attachments.

Guru bhakti

As one holds fast to steady pillar to prevent from being tossed about, so too should one bind oneself through Bhakti to God, to steady one's mind.

The purpose of prayer is not petition for benefits. Such petitioning implies either that God does not know what we want, which will militate against His Omniscience, or that He waits to be asked and delights in praise, which will degrade Him to the level of ordinary man. Why then do we pray? Though Omniscient God is immanent in every creature and knows what is in the heart of every person, yet, if what we wish to say in prayer remains unsaid, it afflicts our heart and so prayer heals that affliction. By prayer, we do not seek to change what God ordains; in fact, we cannot do so. We go to Him to remove our impurities.

As Tiruvalluvar said, we attach ourselves to Him who has no attachments to rid ourselves of our attachments.

A devout consciousness that God exists will itself do the miracle of alchemising us into purity of nature. We obtain a spiritual charge into our frame by being in His presence.

Do not move away from a Sadhu or your Guru because he did not/does not speak to you

Realization is the result of the Master’s (Guru’s) grace, more than teachings, lectures, meditations, etc

Those who have come within the ambit of the Guru’s gracious look will be saved by the Guru and will not get lost.

We may question, ‘why can’t I meditate on the clock on the wall or on the black dot on the wall?’ Sound has power

By Chanting and listening to Divine names of the Lord various unwanted thoughts that arise and disturb our mind are erased out and new ones do not crop up.

Anything that comes from the perfect cannot be imperfect. That which has come from perfection is also going towards perfection. When we see it en route to perfection, it seems to appear imperfect. That's all.

You should not only accept from the bottom of your heart the situation that the Lord keeps you in but also be grateful to Him for that because it is verily the Lord's blessing!

We don’t have the capability to perform either Dhyana, Ritual rites and Pooja. We are capable only to Chant the Divine names of “Krishna, Rama”. Its true that Divine names alone would protect us.

Still can we allow the Vedas to die which have originated from the Supreme Himself ? Will that not be a great loss ?

Please check these: Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

"You advocate that only Nãmasankirtan is the way to attain Liberation ('Moksha'). Why then should we protect the Vedas? What is the need for learning the Vedas?" ………

If by any chance the Vedas die, then there would be no base to demark the right from the wrong.

Dhyana Yoga, Karma Yoga and Jnana – All these paths need to be taught, but only Nama Sankirtan can be propagated. That verily shows its simplicity.

Though a great marga, in today's world, it is just impossible to follow the Karma marga as prescribed in our Vedas

Naamasankirtan is also a way advocated by the Vedas. Hence, we follow this path.

We have little capacity to meditate, perform rituals and puja. But we are capable of chanting the names of the Lord – Krishna, Rama, and so on. It is true that by muttering the names of the Lord we will be liberated.

What is the essence of all the Shastras, the Brahma Sutra, the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, etc.

"I lay in a kneeling posture in the cart itself, shocked as I was, repeating RAMA RAMA, the only spiritual prayer I knew, during the rest of my journey"

The truth of the four Vedas is the Nama of the Lord “Namachivaya” and the one who chants the Divine Name with selfless love is uplifted to the glorious path

Karma Yoga is indeed very hard. Bhakti Yoga indeed is the law of this age

The ONLY religion for this age

The Paramatman conducts the cosmic drama playing in strange and ever new ways. Although scientists like Darwin speak of evolution, in the matter of Atmic strength, intellectual enlightenment, character and yogic power, we seem to have be en going further and further down on the scale.

Since the Kruta-Yuga there has been a decline in the powers of man. In that age a man lived so long as his skeleton lasted. Even if his blood dried up and his flesh was destroyed he survived until his bones collapsed. People in the Kruta age had much power of knowledge. They were called "asti-gata-pranas".

In the Treta age people were "mamsa-gata-pranas", that is they lived so long as their flesh lasted and did not perish even when their blood dried up. They had a special capacity for performing sacrifices. In the Dvapara age people were "rudhira-gata-pranas" and lived until such time as their blood dried up. They were known especially for the puja they performed.

We of the Kali age are "anna-gata-pranas" and life will remain in our body so long as the food [nourishment] lasts. We have little capacity to meditate, perform rituals and puja. But we are capable of chanting the names of the Lord – Krishna, Rama, and so on. It is true that by muttering the names of the Lord we will be liberated.

Please check these: Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Sri Swamiji says "It is common for anyone in this Yuga. I can assure you that the Divine Name alone can make you attain God

The one who calls all the people in this Kali Yuga and gives the ‘upadesa’, “Utter the Name of the Lord. You can attain God!” Only such a one is a Sadguru.

Only the chanting of the Divine Names eradicates the evils of this Kali Yuga. There is no other effective way available to overcome the evil propensities of this Kaliyuga

Would it not amount to grave injustice if one shows a difficult path to the world ?

How can we attain spiritual powers?

Kali Santarana Upanishad comes to our rescue, stating which specific Nama has to be chanted for liberation, in this Age (Kali Yuga).

Having compassion of the Lord as the foundation, the one which has no rules, the one which can eradicate the force of Kali, Namakirtanam is the only resort. I think again and again about this with in Myself

More peaceful is the remembrance of Bhagavatpada (Jagadguru Adisankara Bhagavatpada) than the remembrance of Bhagavan (Lord). Bhagavan who is the source of all good and evil and would punish us for the wrong doings. But Bhagavatpada only blesses good to us and redeems us even if we are the worst being. Hence remembrance of Bhagavatpada gives us the superior peace.

How do we offer our mind, that is, how do we not think of worthless things and bring only the thought of  Bhagavatpada in our mind? I would suggest a easy way for this:

We should keep on Chanting in our mind,

“Hare Hara Shankara, Jaya Jaya Shankara”.

This is the only way. By doing this Bhagavatpada would come in our mind. To eradicate the miseries in the world Gnyanasambhandar has shown the way of Chanting the Divine name of “Hara”

Since Bhagavatpada has conquered the world with his compassion we can add “Jaya Jaya” and “Shankara”  with “Hara”. No other discourses are required nor we need to analyse this with our intellect.

Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

A trader first spends and buys things and then earns profit by selling them.  Likewise we should forsake our bodily comforts and earn a big profit for our soul by fasting.

When we fast and keep our mind continuously focused on God, we would understand which is greater happiness.

When we fast and don’t eat we should keep feeding our mouth with a tastier thing of Chanting His Divine Names and speaking about His glories by engaging ourselves in Japa, Bhajan and reading our scriptures. For our ears we should feed them by hearing to Kirtans, Harikatha. During Ekadasi hearing and reading read Puranas are very special.

By fasting, your mind becomes calm. It is easier to contemplate on God in a calm mind than in a tumultuous mind.

Performance of Nama kirtan during auspicious days will destroy these ten sinful errors

Every Ekadasi Akanda Namakirtan (Chanting Mahamantra from 6 am to 6 pm is done in most of our Namadwaars)

On auspicious days like Ekadasi people go on the streets singing the Divine Name of the Lord.

Every day in Marghazhi month and on Sundays people go on the streets singing the Divine Name of the Lord in all Namadwaars and GOD Satsangs

Every Saturday and on every Ekadasi people would get together in this Bhajan mutt/hall and do Bhajan [Nama Sankirtan], i.e. sing the Divine Names of the Lord.

Every week people in hundreds of GOD satsangs across the globe join and sing the Divine Names of the Lord

Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God

If we are immersed in Divine Name it will lead to silence

How to control the noisy mind and be peaceful by Sri Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal [Maha Periyava] of Kaanchi Kaamakoti Peetam (today is Maha Periyava's Jayanthi)

When a group of persons are chattering with each other and are requested to remain silent, whether it is possible for them to remain so? They could not. May be after a minute or two, one or two persons start speaking with the other person in a hushed tone and over a period of time, say, by around 10 minutes, everyone start conversing with each other in loud tones and place becomes noisy.

Same would be the result of attempting to control the thoughts, which are arising in our mind, in one stroke. Hence, instead of requesting “Silence Please” again and again – (with His usual divinely smile) that is instead of shouting “Silence Silence” – if someone starts chanting nama, “Rama Rama”, “Siva Siva” and by making it rhythmic with ragas and chanted as a Bhajan and everyone starts repeating it, all the sounds get merged in the Nama Itself.

For say half an hour, one hour or even through out the night when they change the rhythm and ragas and various Divine names are sung all are able to participate with out other talks. This is not silence. But we can say this as “Next best”. If we are immersed in Divine Name like this it will lead to silence. Can an ordinary talk lead one so? Of all the emotions the love is reflected out in various beautiful ways in Bhakthi. This love for Lord will suppress the other thoughts / emotions and the dual love will get strengthened in one particular Bhava and culminates in advaitic experience, which is not possible by attempting to control the thoughts / emotions of the mind directly.

If you wish for eternal silence ('nishabda') of your mind, you have to produce a sound ('shabda') – and that sound is that of the Mahamantra.

The ego, the mind has to be made silent. Chanting works on ego and dissolves it into its source

Let us say that on the compound wall of our house some dirty posters have been pasted. What should we do to stop this? We should paste a poster reading, 'do not paste any poster on this wall.'

Sound and Space

The more intense our love for Him, our remembrance becomes automatically more and more continuous and unbroken, because it is our nature to remember that which we love most

Test to determine whether we can remember in our last moments by Sri Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal [Maha Periyava] of Kaanchi Kaamakoti Peetam

The thought that seize out one’s mind for life long period would surely, strongly surface during the last breath. Likewise we ourselves can have a test to determine whether it’s possible to have an active remembrance of the lord when our soul departs the body.

Our holy scriptures (sastras) declares that the sleep we have on daily basis is similar to death. When we are  fast asleep we do not have any awareness of our senses and wisdom (Gjana).Thats why it’s been named as ‘ nithya pralaya’.

Hence on daily basis we can try whether we can think only about God ‘s name before we go for a sleep. We can think of the lord that we adored much. No other thought should occupy our mind. It seems to be easy while saying so. But the reality is, its very difficult to practice.  Let the thinking be about of Kaamakshi, Natajara, Dakshinamurthy, Venkatramana or Muruga – its very intricate indeed to think flawlessly without any other thought.

We may think ‘what’s so challenging to think of a Guru or God whose very thought  provides so much of energy and relieve to the mind?’. But for no apparent reason the mind would start wandering within the few minutes from the very divinely thought and would eventually gets a sleep by having material thoughts.

We should be certain that we can ceaselessly think of the lord if we develop a practice slowly without getting cheated by the mind. All depends on our practice and tireless efforts. The supreme god (Paramathma) Himself will provide the strength based on our fortitude.
