Meerabai’s Song

Hereafter, the Divine Name Rama is my only companion, nothing else.

I have renounced all my close relatives like father, mother and brother.

Now I keep the company of saints day and night. I do not care about any gossip this generates.

My heart rejoices at the sight of a saint but feels dejected with the worldly people.

I am in deep love with the Lord to whom I offer a necklace of pearls …. tears of Love and Joy.

Along the way, I come across many saints who bless me with a vision for Spirituality.

I bow to them with gratitude …. after all they are the ones through whom I connect to Lord Krishna.

I now conclude that surrendering to real saints (i.e. the Lord) is my destination. It is no longer necessary to wander from place to place for happiness …. all I need to do is to settle down at one place, relax and enjoy my life as directed by the Lord. Even though, I do not bother anyone, the materialistic world continues to place hurdles on me. However, nothing deters me anymore. I am more and more absorbed in my own Self. (Rana sent some poison so she could end her life and stop being an embarrassment to the family. With full knowledge that the drink was life-threatening, she consumed it without any hesitation. Surprisingly, nothing happened to her. This reinforced her conviction in what she was doing, i.e. surrendering to the Lord.)

The matter of my spiritual passion is no longer a secret. Everyone knows that I am devoted to serve my master, Lord Giridhari without any fear of consequences.

I no longer care of what others talk about me …. I am sure that my path leads to the Ultimate.

I shall bundle and throw off all knowledge seeking efforts and meditation, the moment I find great Sadhus, who are Lord’s beloved.

Meerabai’s Song

Translation

hari guN gAvat nAchUngI

mei prabhu guN gAvat nAchUngI

I shall immerse myself in singing the Divine Names and plays of the Lord and dancing to its tunes!

apne mandir me beit beit kar

gIta bhAgavata vAchUngI

I shall sit in the temple of my beloved Lord and read Srimad Bhagavat Gita and Srimad Bhagavata.

jnAna dhyAna kI gatatI bAndh kar

hari jan sang mei lAgUngI

I shall bundle and throw off all knowledge seeking efforts and meditation, the moment I find great Sadhus, who are Sri Hari’s beloved.

I would rather just be in their company and participate in the Hari Kirtan that they shall be engaged in!

mIrA ke prabhu giridharnAgar

sadA premarasa chAkUngI

By singing the Divine Names of the Lord, one naturally develops great love for the Lord. So she further sings that by being in the company of such great men who are ever immersed in doing Namasankirtan and by singing the glories herself, she shall establish herself ever in the blissful love of her Lord Giridhari!

Chant the Mahamantra Nama kirtan :

Meerabai’s Song

Translation

Payo ji maine Rama-ratana dhana payo

I have found, yes, I have found the wealth of the “Divine Name – Rama” the gem

Vastu amolika di mere sataguru

kirpa kara apanayo, payo ji maine

My true guru gave me a priceless thing.

With his grace, I accepted it.

Janama janama ki puji pai

I found the capital of my several births

jaga me sabhi khovayo payo ji maine

I have lost the whole rest of the world

Kharaca na khute, cora na lute

No one can spend it, no one can steal it

dina dina barhata savayo, payo ji maine

Day by day its accumulating as I chant

Sata ki nava khevatiya sataguru

On the boat of truth, the boatman was my true guru

bhava-sagara tara ayo, payo ji maine

I crossed the ocean of births and deaths

Mira ke Prabhu Ghiridhara Nagara, harasha harasha jasa gayo, payo ji maine

Mira's Lord is the Mountain-Holder, the suave lover, of whom I merrily, merrily sing

Drink the nectar of the Divine Name Rama and always sit among righteous company….

Nama Article 30th May 2008

Meerabai's Song

Drink the nectar of the Divine Name Rama, O human! Drink the nectar of the Divine Name Rama!

Leave the bad company, always sit among righteous company (Satsangh). Please Hear and listen to the mention of God.

Wash out the thoughts of Concupiscence, anger, pride, greed and attachment from your mind.

Meera's Lord is the Giridhari (Mountain-Holder), the suave lover. Soak yourself in the dye of His color.

(If we follow the first two steps the last two steps are obvious results!)
